Mrs. Robert Edmund Underwood, Junior, (Mary Margaret) of Concord, North Carolina, has been with Portraits, Inc. since 1997 assisting families, corporations, foundations, judges, hospitals and schools with their portrait selections. Representing over 100 artists who work in varied mediums of oil, pastel, charcoal and sculpture at all price  points, Mary Margaret provides professional service to her clients from the selection of the artist, the arrangements of the sitting for the portrait, framing if requested and installation if needed. It has been her honor to assist in unveilings for over 1000 in an event space to the most intimate for a family in their living room. Every client is taken care of from beginning to end at no additional expense. Portraits, Inc. stands behind the work of all their artists and Mary Margaret’s 20+ years of experience ensures that you will be matched with the perfect artist for your budget and style.

Mary Margaret graduated from Peace College with an Associate of Arts degree, then continued her education at North Carolina State University, earning a BA in Communications. Her early career began in development work at Catawba College and then Spirit Square Center for the Arts in Charlotte, igniting her love for the arts. When pursuing an artist to paint her daughter’s portrait, she discovered Portraits, Inc. and was inspired by her love for art to join this growing company as a sales associate. Along with commissioning personal portraits of her husband and six children, she has been fortunate to assist in portrait commissions for all ages and styles that best represent her clients.

The love of the arts has only grown as Mary Margaret went back to school as an adult student at Queens University in Charlotte, NC, for interior design. She opened an interior design firm, Underwood Design, in 2013, which has been a great complement to her portrait business. Underwood Design has two locations: one near the historic district of Concord, NC, and the other in the Myers Park area of Charlotte, NC, servicing the Charlotte metro area and as far as New York City.

Underwood is a community leader and has served as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church, on the Board of Trustees at Cannon School, board member of the William and Norman Cannon Charitable Trust, board member of Friendship Trays in Charlotte, NC, and past co-chair of the Mint Museum’s Home and Garden Tour and Symposium. She is also active in Charlotte’s Woman of Purpose at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. While being with family is one of her greatest joys, she also loves to travel with her husband and spend time at their beloved “High Cotton” in Pawleys Island, SC.

Underwood is married to Bob Underwood, owner of St. Andrews Assisted Living Center located in Concord, NC.
