Portraits, Inc. has continued to see substantial growth in the demand for commissioned portraits. With this in mind, we have drafted a short list of trends that we expect to see in the coming year. Read to find out more!
The Traditional Head-and-Shoulders Portrait
This portrait form is one of the most accessible for the client and the artist. The client benefits by paying a smaller price while still maintaining the quality and likeness of the subject. The Head-and-Shoulders portrait lends itself to be stylistically classic, a form of art-making familiar to most artists.
It is beneficial that the process usually does not require as much time as portraits that portray more of the sitter. We even represent artists who can conduct a sitting and complete this type of portrait in a single day, a feat both uncommon and impressive.
Contemporary Portraits
Times are constantly changing, and as they do, so does the way we portray those important to us. Over the years, various contemporary portraiture styles have continued to gain notoriety and will continue to in 2022. Some trademarks of a contemporary portrait can often include bold color, nontraditional materials, and a loose brushstroke.

Our Portraits, Inc. Artists are skilled at abstracting the figure while accurately depicting the subject’s personality and likeness. These artists have created works on a variety of mediums, including copper, glass, and wood. Subjects are attentively rendered against backgrounds ranging from the basketball court to an orchestral stage. These new and exciting ways of celebrating lives of significance will keep on, preserving legacies in the new year and beyond.
Achromatic Portraits
An Achromatic Portrait is a portrait achieved without color. However, this beautiful and often cost-effective style of portraiture can come in many forms. While these artworks often are designed using charcoal, we also represent artists who create achromatic portraits using pencil or Conte. This style often functions as a sketch or study for an artist planning a painted piece. However, they often are considered astonishing works of art in their own right.

Achromatic portraits, while simple, elegantly showcase both texture and light. Another benefit to this portrait style can be understood when considering how your commissioned portrait will live in your place of work or home. The achromatic nature of these portraits allows them to fit into just about any interior space, no matter the color scheme. A long-held tradition of art practitioners, this endearing technique is sure to be on full display in the coming seasons.
