"There is something marvelous about the portrait experience where artist and subject come together and create a true and beautiful statement about themselves."

- Teresa Mattos

Teresa was born in the Monterey Bay Area.  The natural, wild beauty of the coastline brought in a never ending source of people for a young Teresa to keenly observe, and this later gave birth to a desire for her to capture these moments in time.  Influenced by hours spent in art galleries in nearby Carmel, she was inspired to learn everything she could about the language of painting.  This determination brought to life the remarkable gift she has of capturing the depth and personality of each of her subjects.

Having studied the portrait luminaries of the past like Zorn, Sargent and Velasquez, she began training under modern masters, which has firmly established her love of portraiture.  Teresa believes, “There is something marvelous about the portrait experience where artist and subject come together and create a true and beautiful statement about themselves.”  Her work has been recognized by the Portrait Society of America.

Her early inspiration has now been realized as she works on her commissions from her studio in the coastal village of Capitola.
